Women’s Basketball:

UNCW has fired head women’s basketball coach Ann Hancock after 10 seasons with the team. In those 10 seasons, Hancock accumulated a 138-156 record. The Seahawks were 12-19 in 2010.

“We appreciate Ann’s hard work and dedication to UNCW her time here,” AD Kelly Mehrtens said in a press release. “We wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors.”

The press release also stated that a national coaching search will begin immediately.

Two Seahawk swimmers earned Mid-Major All-American honors Tuesday. Kaitlin Kirsteier and Rob Anderson received the prestigious honor, which recognizes the best collegiate swimmers in the nation at the mid-major level. During the 2009-10 season Anderson posted 19 first-place finishes for UNCW and was named CAA Swimmer-of-the-Year. Kirsteier, who holds eight school swimming records for the Seahawks, finished the year as UNCW’s strongest swimmer and was awarded the Women’s Swimming Scholar Athlete-of-the-Year award for the CAA. Both swimmers also represented UNCW at the NCAA Swimming Championships

Women’s Golf:

The Seahawk women’s golf team won’t be participating in the 2010 NCAA National Championships this May, but Seahawk sophomore Sofia Hagsund earned an individual entry into the tournament, one of only three such invitations. Hagsund will compete in the East Regional from May 6-8 at the Ironwood Country Club in Greenville, N.C. Hagsund is the third golfer in the program’s history to earn an individual spot at the National Championship.

The Seahawk track & field team will participate in the 2010 CAA Championships April 30 and May 1. UNCW is coming off a 14-win performance at the Charlotte 49er Invitational April 17 in Fairfax, Va.
