Every year is a great year to be a Seahawk, but 2024 proved to be one of the best years yet for our sports teams. Five teams brought home the titles of CAA Champion this past year for UNCW.
Men and Women’s Swim and Dive
For the first time in school history, our men’s and women’s swim and dive teams won back-to-back CAA Championships, bringing the program’s total CAA Championship titles to 21. A few notable athletes from the teams are Ethan Badrian as men’s CAA Diver of the Year, William Carrico as men’s CAA Rookie Swimmer of the Year and Kourtney Clausen, earning her third win of the women’s CAA Diver of the Year.
Men’s Tennis
The UNCW men’s tennis team brought home a four-peat at their CAA Championship in April. The Seahawks faced off against third-ranked team Elon in the CAA Finals in Williamsburg, VA. This was the third consecutive year that UNCW and Elon were in the conference championship. A hard-fought 4-1 victory earned the program their 10th CAA Champion title. Harold Huens was crowned the Most Outstanding Player of the CAA Championship and was later named the CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Year.
Softball
May brought a CAA Championship win for the Seahawks women’s softball team. UNCW defeated Campbell 3-1 at Boseman Field to earn their second CAA Champion title in three seasons and earn a bid from the NCAA Regional tournament against the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. Kara Hammock was named the CAA Softball Most Outstanding Player. Mary Sobataka, Skylar Stockton and Madison Biddle also qualified for the All-Tournament team. The Seahawks ended the longest season (56 games) with a winning record of 33-23.
Baseball
Brooks Field hosted the CAA Baseball Championship for the first time since 2006 as the UNCW Baseball team fought for their title of back-to-back CAA Champs in late May. The Seahawks beat long-time rival College of Charleston in the finals to earn the program’s eighth CAA Championship win. Trevor Marsh was the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player and Tanner Thach, Aiden Evans and Jac Croom qualified for the All-Tournament team from UNCW. The Seahawks also surpassed the East Carolina Pirates for their previous CAA record of seven conference championships.
UNCW tied with Northeastern for having five CAA Championship wins in 2024, the most in the conference. These Seahawk teams will defend their titles in their Spring 2025 seasons.
