St. Ledger steps down as Softball skipper

Staff Reports

UNC Wilmington softball coach Maggie St. Ledger has resigned to pursue other interests, Director of Athletics Peg Bradley-Doppes announced today.

The Seahawks posted a 20-34 overall record and finished seventh in the eight-team Southern Conference this season, losing two straight in the SoConn Tournament last weekend in Chattanooga, Tenn. UNCW placed four players on the SoCon’s All-Conference team, including first-teamer Tiffany Lindemann.

“We appreciate Maggie’s contributions to the program, and certainly wish her the very best in the future.,” Bradley-Doppes said.

St. Ledger, who coached in 995 games, has directed the Lady Seahawks since the fast-pitch program began in 1984-85. The team competed as an independent for 11 years before joining the Big South as an associate member in 1996. After four years in the Big South, the Lady Seahawks joined the Southern Conference last season.

“This is a difficult decision because I have dedicated my life to UNCW and all facets of the athletic program,” St. Ledger said. “We had a good recruiting year, so the program is in excellent standing. I believe success lies just around the corner.”
