UNC Wilmington walked into UNCW Soccer Stadium on Saturday as a team riding a five-game winning streak. It walked out as Colonial Athletic Association regular season champion and had the hardware to prove it.

With a 3-1 win over Drexel, the Seahawks captured their fourth CAA regular season title in program history and its first since 2014.

The Seahawks were led by senior forward Phillip Goodrum. The Charlotte native scored the team’s first goal in the seventh minute of the game before following it up with the game winner in the 60th minute. Goodrum also moved into sixth place on the Seahawks’ all-time list with 70 career points; once again inking his name into the UNCW history books.

The Seahawks also picked up a 3-0 road win Tuesday night against Virginia Commonwealth in their final non-conference matchup of the season.

Phillip Goodrum — who netted two goals — and current CAA Defensive Player of the Week Wilhelm Nilsson — who had a goal for himself — led the effort heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

With only a senior day matchup against Elon left on the docket, UNCW carries a 10-4-2 overall record while being 6-0-1 in conference play.

The ‘Hawks return home for a 7 p.m. rendezvous with the Phoenixes on Saturday Nov. 2 to cap off the regular season.
