CAA Monday Recap:

Daniel Dixon of William & Mary (7-6, 1-1) drained a deep three before the buzzer in overtime to top Hofstra (9-6, 1-1) for a big road win 95-93. Dixon finished with 25 points while Hofstra sophomore Justin Wright-Foreman led all scorers with 30.

Northeastern (9-5, 2-0) picked up an overtime road win 75-70 at Drexel (6-9, 0-2) led by T.J. Williams scoring 24 points and Alex Murphy adding 20.

College of Charleston junior Joe Chealey nailed three 3-pointers and scored 19 points while leading his team to a 65-56 victory at Delaware (7-8, 0-2) to improve its record to 11-4 overall and 2-0 in the CAA.

James Madison handled the visiting Towson Tigers (8-7, 0-2) in a decisive 64-44 victory that saw senior Jackson Kent hit four 3-pointers on his way to 23 points and 6 of 10 shooting.

UNCW/Elon Game Notes

  • UNCW outrebounded Elon 41-29.
  • C.J. Bryce and Denzel Ingram each scored 12 points in the second half.
  • Prior to the Elon game UNCW was leading the CAA in scoring offense, scoring margin, field goal percentage, steals, turnover margin, assist to turnover ratio, and attendance
  • 4,350 people filled Trask Coliseum on Monday. Its capacity is 5,200. 
  • Devontae Cacok ranks second in field goal percentage in all of Division I basketball at .81. Central Florida’s 7-foot 6-inch Tacko Fall of Senegal leads the country at .84.
  • Cacok ranks seconds in the CAA in rebounding at 8.9 a game trailing the nation’s leading rebounder in Lithuanian Rokas Gustys of Hofstra who is averaging 13.4 boards per game. Cacok grabbed 15 versus Elon.
  • Ambrose Mosely boasts a team best 43% shooting from 3-point range which is seventh in the CAA. He has made 25 of 58 threes so far, Denzel Ingram has made a CAA-best 40 and Chris Flemmings has made 26.
  • Going into the Elon game UNCW ranked fourth in the CAA in 3-point FG% and eighth in rebounding. 
  • UNCW ranks fifth in the latest Mid-Major Top 25 from the CBS Sports site collegeinsider.com behind Saint Mary’s, Wichita State, UT Arlington and Gonzaga respectively. College of Charleston was listed at 19 as the only other CAA team ranked. Northeastern received 42 votes and is two spots away from cracking the top 25.
  • In the latest Rating Percentage Index rankings the NCAA placed UNCW at 15 on the list one spot ahead of Virginia and two ahead of North Carolina. RPI considers a team’s strength of schedule while awarding 1.4 points for a road win and .6 points for a home win. A home loss results in minus 1.4 points while a road loss results in a .6 deduction. College of Charleston is the only CAA opponent currently in the top 100.
