REVIEW: Despite a generic intro, there is a brilliant story somewhere in ‘Y: The Last Man’

Boyce Rucker, Intern September 22, 2021
FX’s adaptation of the “Y: The Last Man” comic series is one of the network’s most anticipated shows in recent years. The series was published by DC Comics’ mature Vertigo imprint and ran for 60 issues from 2002 to 2008. The comic’s critical acclaim may signal the show’s potential for strong impactful storytelling. While the first part of the three-episode premiere focuses too much on exposition to grip viewers right away, it still has the potential to highlight strong acting performances.

t creating an initial sense of unease and tension, but the effect devolves due to the writing and its reliance on shock factor. The first part recaptures the groundedness of “AHS: Murder House” and creates a somewhat moody atmosphere that can be attributed to the production design of the house’s interior, the ambient musical score and the dark cinematography.

REVIEW: ‘The Bad Batch’ is an impressive addition to the “Star Wars’ franchise

Boyce Rucker, Contributing Writer May 12, 2021
A spin-off of “The Clone Wars,'' “The Bad Batch” focuses on the titular squad of genetically enhanced clone troopers as they break from the ranks of the clone army after the execution of Order 66 and the emergence of the Galactic Empire. Unlike the majority of the clone army, the squad makes use of more creative and resourceful tactics when they’re engaged in battle while also displaying and acting on emotions with consideration to morality rather than simply following orders.

REVIEW: Netflix’s ‘Shadow and Bone’ series is what a screen adaptation should look like

Kaylin Damico, Photography Editor April 29, 2021
When a book gets a screen adaptation, there is always the fear that the world and the characters will not be portrayed properly. With Bardugo as an executive producer, Netflix was able to incorporate the important details to maintain the novel’s integrity on the screen. The first episode alone will have you entranced by the world of the “Grishaverse” and its characters.
