UNCW Theatre Department brings satire to the stage with ‘A Murder of Crows’

The UNCW Theatre Department is ending their 2022-2023 season with a thought-provoking and unconventional play, “A Murder of Crows,” written by Mac Wellman and directed by Professor Paul Castagno. The show follows Susannah as she learns to understand and deal with family relationships, survival, and life and death.

UNCW Theatre Department to present ‘Electra’ as first spring production

UNCW’s Theatre Department gears up for their debut production of the spring semester. Sophocles’ Greek tragedy “Electra,” directed by Christopher Marino, will be the first of two performances this spring and will kick off this Friday. The show will run on Feb. 16-19 and 23-26 at the Mainstage Theatre in the UNCW Cultural Arts Building.

UNCW Theatre Department to present ‘Kindertransport’ as first fall production

UNCW’s theatre department is kicking off the fall season with their first production, “Kindertransport.” Diane Samuel’s 1993 play takes place in three different time periods, following the life of young Eva, a German child who is sent to a foster family in England to escape the Nazi regime.

Set on the dreary, haunting moors of England, this story features a twisting roller-coaster ride of events and secrets that cannot help but pull the audience in, only to keep them in the dark. Early uncertainty in the show is reminiscent of Hitchcock's mysteries such as Rebecca, with all the beauty, class and attitude of society women in Brontë’s classic novel Jane Eyre.

The Healing Generational Trauma: A Community Arts Experience conference held on Saturday, April 17, focused on the trauma Black Americans face over multiple generations and the use of art as means of expressing this trauma. The conference was created under the Artivism For Social Change initiative fostered by the Office of the Arts and is available to view on the Arts at UNCW website.
