The Professional Women’s Hockey League is a professional ice hockey league with teams in the U.S. and Canada. In its second season, the league has three teams in the U.S. and three in Canada and is composed of the best women’s hockey players in the world.
The Takeover Tour is a series of nine games in cities across North America that do not currently have PWHL teams. In Raleigh, the game drew a crowd of 10,782 fans. Attendance through the first seven games has reached 100,735.
Gwyneth Philips, Ottawa Charge goalie, was added to the U.S roster for the 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship that will be held in Czechia in April.
“It’s still surreal,” Philips said of being a role model for young girls who can dream of playing professional hockey.“I’m living the dream, and we are someone’s dream. That is so cool. A little girl in the stands can look at us and say that it could be her in the future. That’s the best out of these Takeover Tour games. It gives the girls a chance to see what this league is about.”
The next Takeover games will be held in Detroit, MI on March 16 and St. Louis, MO on March 29.
