Riding a six-game win streak and boasting three straight tournament wins to open the season, UNC Wilmington volleyball continued its dominant ways with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-19) win over Campbell Tuesday night.

The Seahawks (9-1) jumped out to an early lead on the back of another strong performance from senior Nicole Lott. The show-stopping outside hitter helped UNCW to a 7-1 start in the first set, recording eight kills and four digs.

Lott would finish the match with the fifth double-double of her senior season (10 kills, 11 digs, two blocks) and move past Hannah Helton (1987-90) for eighth on the UNCW all-time kills list (997).

“We did well,” Lott said. “I think we brought some momentum with us from Texas and even though it’s tough to come out of the weekend after only having a day or two off, but I thought we responded very well.”

After claiming the first two sets with relative ease (the Camels never held a lead), UNCW found itself facing adversity in the final game. Campbell took advantage of multiple defensive miscues and came out out the break more aggressively, taking a quick 6-1 lead.

The Seahawks battled back. Down 9-7, UNCW recorded points on four straight serves — two of which came off of Lott aces — to give itself the lead for good. Its lead got as big as four in the final set on the way to a 25-19 win to secure the sweep.

“We just had to change up our servers,” said UNCW coach Amy Bambanek on the final set. “We tried putting someone else in there for them to serve to and that caused their servers to make some errors. It was a tough serving night for both teams.”

Also leading UNCW in the game was junior Sydney Brock (nine kills, six blocks) and sophomore Halle Hunt (eight kills, one block).

Hunt, who played sparingly in UNCW’s opening tournament, was seen on the court for a majority of Tuesday’s match. Bambanek said afterward that her team’s depth helps the Seahawks play the hot hand on any given night.

“Sometimes you don’t know what you’re going to get out of people,” she said. “If there’s something not clicking with one player, I know I can go to the next person and just plug people in and go on like nothing’s changed.”

The Camels (4-7) were led by Loni Kreun on offense. She recorded one block to go along with a team-high 12 kills.

UNCW will take a road trip into the Atlantic Coast Conference this weekend as it faces Duke and North Carolina State on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The Seahawks will return to Wilmington for their first conference match of the year next Friday against Northeastern.
