Seahawks defeat Phoenix to begin conference play

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Dominic Toone and Tsubasa Takada each scored a goal for the Seahawks in the second half as No. 14 UNCW (4-0-1, 1-0-0 Colonial Athletic Association) secured a 2-0 win over Elon (1-3-0, 0-1-1 CAA) to begin conference play on Saturday evening. 

Toone’s goal came in the 53rd minute when the junior midfielder scored his first goal of the season. 

Anderson scored soon after while Seahawk goalkeeper Gabriel Perrotta had four saves in Saturday’s contest en route to his fourth shutout of the season. 

“It was a difficult game tonight, as we knew it would be,” said UNCW Head Coach Aidan Heaney. “We had to do a good job in the second half, and I thought our players stepped it up and there were a lot of improved performances in the second half.” 

UNCW will travel south to face the College of Charleston (0-1-2on March 20 at 6 p.m.
