On Jan. 10, Wilmington’s city council voted unanimously to purchase The Salvation Army’s N 2nd St. property for $4.8 million. The city is currently leasing the property to the organization until its eventual closure in May of this year. A new facility off Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy. is still under construction and will not be completed for at least a year.
From films about parenthood to urban legends, conversations on poverty to Reading Rainbow, the 28th annual Cucalorus Film Festival is a multifaceted exploration of creativity with a huge variety of films and several stage performances to enjoy.
The group is most known for their beach cleanups each semester. In fall of 2021, they collected over 800 pounds of waste from Wrightsville Beach and the surrounding beaches. Between fall of 2020 and spring of 2021, POP collected 4,122.2 pounds of waste. They also plant one tree for every 25 pounds of trash collected. The group's efforts align with their passion to maintain the ocean and promote an environmentally friendly mission.
“What It Is Media” shows potential in being a great company for developing social experiment content. “Booed Up” can hopefully help viewers to see Wilmington in a new and exciting light, akin to what locales they might see in “The Bachelor.” Women-founded and Wilmington-based, ‘What It Is Media’ is a compelling creation from three UNCW alumnae.
Wilmington’s boom is credited to creative people who still want to execute their ideas that were interrupted by COVID-19. Creating their work in the city provides numerous job opportunities for UNCW film students, local filmmakers, and young actors searching for work.
