The Chancellor search continues on schedule.

“The timeline is going as we expected,” Board of Trustees Chair Michael Shivar said. “We have met our goals so far as a committee and now the search firm is doing some work to move the process forward from their side.”

Currently the search firm, Baker and Associates, is compiling a list of candidates for the Chancellor position. The Board of Trustees Chair anticipates a minimum of 45 days to find out who the candidates are.

On Nov. 5, the Chancellor Search Committee held a meeting to discuss qualities wanted in UNCW’s fifth chancellor. The committee described an overview of UNCW’s strengths and shared student, faculty, and staff feedback with Baker and Associates.

“There are many qualities we will be looking for in a new Chancellor beginning with the ability to communicate well with students, faculty, community and trustees,” Shivar said. “Dedication to higher education, courage to face the challenges of the campus and integrity when working with all parties are some of the qualities that come to my mind.”

According to UNCW’s meeting minutes, the Search Committee also asked Baker and Associates to, “Begin the search for talented and experienced candidates with a passion for student engagement, fundraising experience and understanding of the importance of community engagement and town/gown relationships.

The Search Committee will begin reviewing candidate’s applications in January. The next step in the selection process is naming potential candidates found. The next meeting is scheduled for Dec. 12, 2014 on the UNCW campus. The search committee encourages all students, faculty and community members to attend.
