The Seahawk’s predictions for the 2022 Oscars

The Seahawk’s staff writers Eriq Dixon and Boyce Rucker share their own predictions for the 2022 Oscars. Being impassioned film-watchers, their dialogue promotes the deservance of respective films, performances, screenplays and their cultural significance. Chloe Zhao is the first woman of color to win Best Director at the Oscars, but China is not exactly thrilled about it

Zhao appeared to criticize the China of her childhood as a place "where there are lies everywhere” in an interview with American magazine Filmmaker back in 2013. In another interview with an Australian news outlet, she was misquoted in saying that the United States is ultimately her country.  Despite her being misquoted, China's online nationalists rushed to attack Zhao, accusing her of smearing China.

OPINION: Legalize cannabis now

There are many economic benefits of cannabis legalization outside the justice system as well. The drug is easily taxable, allowing greater funding for public services. A report from 2019 estimates that if the federal prohibition on weed was lifted that year, the US would earn more than $100 billion in extra tax revenue by 2025.
