Losers of their last 8, UNCW softball (3-13) came into the weekend hoping to get off the schneid back home at Boseman Field.

They welcomed Furman (6-12) to Boseman Field for a three-game weekend set featuring a Saturday doubleheader.

This non-conference matchup was the two teams first and only meeting of the season.

The Lady Seahawks cruised past the Paladin of Furman in Game 1 with a season-high 10 runs powered by a 7 run first inning.

The first inning surge was started by a three-run home run by Janel Gamache and that was all the Seahawks needed winning the game 10-2.

Despite 10 hits to Furman’s 5, the Seahawks would drop the second game 6-5 on Saturday. A critical late-game two-out error in the 6th led to three unearned runs which sunk the Seahawks.

Sunday’s rubber match was a dominant performance for Furman winning 10-0 and taking the series.

After going 1-2 this weekend, the 3-13 Seahawks open their CAA Conference play, hosting a 3 game set with the College of Charleston for two games Saturday and a finale on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon on Saturday.
