WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW softball’s own junior pitcher/infielder Janel Gamache earned CAA honors this week as she has been named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Softball Player of the Week. This is her first CAA weekly honor.   

The Seahawks went 1-1 in their season-opening series with Georgia State over the weekend, and Gamache led the team in both games. Not only did she bat .500 between the two games, including two doubles and a home run earning a total of four RBI’s, but she also pitched a scoreless seventh inning in game two to secure the victory for UNCW, marking Gamache’s first save of her college career.   

Going into this weekend, the Seahawks will host Appalachian State in a four-game series on Saturday Feb. 27, and Sunday Feb. 28, where Gamache will look to continue her hot streak.
