Seahawks fall to Towson in Sunday matchup
November 10, 2019
UNC Wilmington (14-14, 4-11 CAA) hosted the second game of its back-to-back, two-day homestand on Sunday in Hanover Hall as the Seahawks faced Towson. The ‘Hawks looked to snap the Tigers’ undefeated CAA record, but fell short, losing the match 3-1.
UNCW came out strong, winning the first set, but fatigue set in as Towson (24-2, 14-0) took control of the next two.
“After such a tough five-set loss yesterday, I knew the quick turnaround would be tough,” said head coach Amy Bambenek. “But I think we played pretty well against a really good Towson team.”
The Seahawks seemed to regain momentum late in the third as they went on 10-1 run to take the lead. This spark was largely led by junior outside hitter, Jamie Thomas.
“I saw the momentum shift, and I knew we had to just keep it going. I was just doing my job,” Thomas said of her spike late in the third that sent the Seahawks up 25-24 before they ultimately lost the set 27-25.
The fourth set was all Towson as it took home the victory. UNCW has a week to recuperate after the two-loss weekend and will look to bounce back next Sunday, Nov. 17 vs. College of Charleston on Senior Day.
