Nintendo has made a push to release exclusive games on mobile platforms since 2016. Miitomo was Nintendo’s first app, which was a social networking game using Miis; it has since shut down. Other games are more successful; “Super Mario Run,” “Fire Emblem Heroes” and “Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp” have gained great popularity since each release.

According to Famitsu.com, the game has set the record for highest first week sales for the PlayStation 4 in Japan. It has also performed well on the Xbox One; resetera.com poster found that “Monster Hunter: World” has overtaken the hit game “PlayerUnkown’s Battlegrounds” in top paid games.

On December 28, 2017, the company reportedly banned 1.5 million cheaters overall. The game is consistently a best seller on Steam, with players numbers reaching the millions each day.

Nintendo Switch outsells total Wii U hardware sales

The Nintendo Switch, after less than a year on the market, has outsold its predecessor the Wii U. The Wii U, which is no longer being manufactured, sold a total of 13.5 million units according to Nintendo’s official financial data. The Switch in comparison has sold 14.8 million units.

The Wii U, which released on Nov. 18, 2012, saw minimal success and is now the lowest-selling mainline console sold by Nintendo.

BusinessWire has also reported in early January that the Nintendo Switch is the fastest-selling gaming console in US history.
