Writers’ Week 2020: a brief preview of this year’s conference

For one week every Fall semester, the professors of UNCW’s creative writing department opt not to hold classes in an effort to encourage students to attend Writers' Week conference panels—and the practice has proved its worth. On this occasion, the creative writing department, along with various authors, publishers, and representatives of literary magazines (among other individuals), host meetings designed to promote literary discovery and further writers in their knowledge of the writing craft as an art form, whether they’re focused on fiction, nonfiction, or poetry.

UNCW Theatre Department exhibits full range of motion with “A Slight Ache”

With smart social distancing guidelines and bold choices made in the name of safety, the UNCW theatre department seems to have hit a stride. Not only can they continue to organize productions in the face of the global pandemic—but they can also continue to select and pay homage to the finest works in the medium. To see an organization such as this thrive in spite of the world’s situation is truly an inspiring sight to see.

UNC Wilmington kicked off their annual Leadership Lecture series this year with an appearance from Ibram X. Kendi, renowned author of the best-seller ‘How to Be an Antiracist” and historian. As per COVID-19 restrictions, the lecture took place via ZOOM on Sept. 23.

UNCW’s Theatre Department is hosting a live-action production of “A Slight Ache” by Harold Pinter this weekend and next in the Cultural Arts Building. The play will run Sep. 24-26 and  Oct. 1-3 beginning at 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday’s beginning at 2:00 p.m.
