“Just Married” gives hope to couples in trouble
“Just Married,” directed by Shawn Levy, is a romantic comedy about a newlywed couple going through a tough adjustment to married life.
Sarah (Brittany Murphy), who comes from a wealthy family, meets Tom (Ashton Kutcher) when he hits her in the head with a football as she is walking her dog on the beach. Sarah’s family is not fond of Tom and feels she would be better suited with Peter (Christian Kane).
After a month of dating Sarah and Tom move in together, much to her parents dismay. Nine months later, they decide to get married.
Before the wedding everyone close to the couple tries to convince them not to go through with it. Tom’s best friend, Kyle (David Moscow), tries his best to keep him a bachelor by pointing out the not-so-glamorous side of marriage.
Despite the criticism from friends and family, the couple finally ties the knot.
The trouble begins on their honeymoon in Europe. When kicked out of their first hotel for starting a fire, Tom and Sarah find themselves out of luck and end up calling Sarah’s father for money.
By the time they get to their new hotel, things seem to be getting better. That is, until Peter checks in and tries for a final time to win back Sarah’s affection. At this point, the couple sees no hope and decides to go home.
Once home, they go their separate ways and try to get on with life. The only problem is that they are both still very much in love with each other, but are too stubborn to admit it.
Tom realizes after talking with his father how much he needs Sarah in his life. When he tries to talk to her, however, the family will not allow him to see her. He is then forced to make his apologies to the family over the surveillance camera. Sarah eventually sees him from her window and decides to let him in. On her way out to greet Tom, Sarah finally convinces her father that she is truly in love, and they deserve to be together.
Tom and Sarah meet on the front steps and resolve their differences. They realize that they are still in love and want to give their relationship another try.
Real life item Kutcher and Murphy do a wonderful job portraying a couple headed for disaster. They have a very convincing on-screen chemistry.
This movie is a must-see for those in need of a good laugh. The film shows that there is hope for even the most mismatched couples, and that the only thing that matters is true love.
