The Bento Box Inc.: Where sushi is king
Chef Lee Grossman opened The Bento Box Inc. on Monday, March 13 in The Forum on Military Cutoff Road. Featuring a full line of sushi and sashimi, Grossman prepares everything, from the basic to specialty rolls, with quality ingredients he procures from vendors.
Grossman left Echo, a five-star restaurant at The Breakers in Palm Beach, to open a sushi concept restaurant. The Bento Box is meant to offer customers an exciting venue to learn the art of sushi through taste as well as instruction.
Along with a full line of appetizers, soups and salads, the restaurant offers three of the traditional sushi rolls under $5: the California, Tuna, and Cucumber Roll. The restaurant offers specialized rolls including the Dancing Eel, Salmon Tempura, Mexican and Sesame Shrimp Roll, as well as three variations of the California Roll, with no roll topping $10.
For the real deals, try a Bento Box with a mixture of sushi or sashimi along with Miso Soup and a house salad for under $12. There’s even a Bento Box combo with Chicken or Salmon Teriyaki and the daily special.
The Mexican roll features a fresh selection of tasty vegetables and hot, out-of-the-oven soft shell crab. The Mexican represents just one of the tasty rolls unique to the new sushi bar. The Dancing Eel incorporates the barbequed eel found at many restaurants with avocado and is plated extravagantly. The tastes from both rolls pop with freshness and show that there is a lot out there in the sushi world.
In presentation, taste, and originality, Chef Grossman rates up with the Iron Chefs featured on Food Network. The restaurant features a minimalist atmosphere that allows the geometrical shapes of sushi to stand on their own, with simple but precisely placed garnishes.
Grossman said that the menu is just a starting point and he insists that customers try new things, often offering pieces to introduce new taste experiences. He plans to start holding sushi-making lessons with Saki sampling on the weekends. Grossman considers himself a chef but foremost a teacher, with the aspirations to educate many novice and ardent sushi lovers.
