Fall fashion fundraiser

On Nov. 18, 2012 Banana Republic and Wilmington’s local Team in Training chapter hosted their 8th annual fashion show at the Hilton Garden Inn at Mayfaire. The fall show benefited research for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Donations predominantly powered the show.

Various companies, including but not limited to Reel Café, Wilmington Wine Shop, and the Atlanta Bread Company, donated food and raffle gift baskets for the guests. Banana Republic employees acted as models and the Hilton gave the foundation a free night to do the show.

“We really didn’t spend any money to do the show. It was run solely on donations,” said Channing Floyd, Wilmington’s TNT Manager.

Ward Hair Salon and Rockin Roller Salon provided hair and makeup while Banana Republic showcased their holiday collection.

This holiday season Banana launched their first ever film-themed line, inspired by Keira Knightley’s “Anna Karenina” remake. The luxurious women’s line featured faux fur hats, thick structured coats, beaded clutches, dresses and skirts. While the men’s line featured wool houndstooth top coats, wool double-breasted coats, pants and jackets. Seventy-five pieces complete the fabulous capsule collection.

When the runway was clear, a few members of Banana stood up and spoke about the LLS and how cancer has personally affected their lives. Touching stories reached the audience and a round of applause followed their speech. Banana then announced they received a grant for participating in the show and are going to give all proceeds to the LLS.

The estimated total for the night was around $3,000, all of which will go to the LLS.

Over 100 guests arrived, but Floyd said he had expected more people to be there.

“This isn’t one of our biggest events,” said Floyd. “We do fundraisers all year to help the LLS.”

TNT is an organization that trains people to run, walk or cycle marathons, half-marathons or triathlons. Each person who joins TNT will help raise money for the LLS by participating in these events throughout the year. It’s a great tradeoff-training and support for an even greater cause.

The show was an overall hit and a complete steal for $20 a ticket. Be sure to check out Banana’s new line and TNT’s future events!
