Womens soccer match vs. ECU cancelled due to weather

The women’s soccer match between UNC Wilmington and East Carolina was cancelled Thursday afternoon due to inclement weather. The game will not be rescheduled.

UNCW ended its nonconference schedule with an overall record of 6-2-1. The Seahawks are a perfect 4-0-0 on the road, compared to a 2-2-1 record at UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks currently rank second in the NSCAA Women Mid-Atlantic poll. A large part of that ranking can be credited to its strong freshmen class.

Two-time Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week, Nikki Cox, has lead the team with six goals in her first year on campus. Cox’s goal total is second behind Hofstra’s Jill Mulholland in the CAA.

The Seahawks have outscored their opponents 25-9. That wide advantage is a testament to the experience and success of the senior goalkeeper duo of Carolyn Huddy and Liisa Rahkola.

Huddy and Rahkola have combined to save 70 percent of shots thus far. Huddy is in the top 10 of both individual save percentage (.708) and saves (17) in the CAA.

Up next, UNCW will open the CAA portion of its schedule this Sunday when it faces College of Charleston. It will play its conference home opener a week from Friday against Northeastern.
