WILMINGTON, North Carolina – A win is a win, no matter how you look at it. However, winning 12 straight must mean a little more, right?

Suddenly, the morning coffee tastes better, that afternoon breeze starts to feel more satisfying, and whatever worries you thought you had tend to fade away.

But most of all, it causes you to be remembered, forever.

After topping Drexel Monday night, 70-63, UNCW Men’s Basketball did something it had never done before in program history. Twelve consecutive victories have rewritten the UNCW history book and forced everyone who underrated this Seahawk squad to admit they were wrong.

Taking a team that found itself locked in the basement of the CAA and catapulting them to an unbeaten conference record was far from an easy task. However, Head Coach Takayo Siddle’s basketball intelligence, hardworking personality, and pure passion for the game are reasons why he was chosen to right this ship.

Needless to say, he has certainly delivered on those expectations.

“During this whole time, I have been numb,” Siddle said. “I was telling my mom the other night that I don’t know how to feel. I think I will reflect back on it after the season is over, but this is pretty special.”

Possessing a talented team is one thing – which Siddle certainly has with this 2022 unit. Yet, having the ability to get those skillful players to buy into what you are selling? Now, that’s when you know you have something special.

Fans, players, coaches and media members have experienced a special feeling about this team for a while now. Maybe not after the second win or the third, but at some point, they knew they were getting to witness something special.

Monday night was proof these feelings were not unwarranted. Instead, it proved they were simply foreshadowing the bright future that lies ahead for everyone involved with this program.

UNCW will begin a three-game road trip with a matchup against Elon on Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. Streaming options are available on FloSports.com. Tune into 95.9 FM The Breeze and follow @uncwmenshoops on Twitter for highlights and live score updates.
