NEWARK, Delaware – UNCW (3-7) dropped their sixth game in a row with a second straight loss to Delaware (11-1) 79-67 Sunday afternoon in the Bob Carpenter Center.

Unfortunately, the Lady Hawks were unable to rebound from their Saturday loss to the Fightin’ Blue Hens, leading to a sweep. Delaware pulled ahead early with a 21-12 first quarter, and the Seahawks were never able to close the gap.

Neither team put up impressive numbers in scoring, but the Blue Hens shot slightly better from behind the arc at 25.9% over UNCW’s 21.4%, as well as from the free throw line, 78.3% to UNCW’s 76.2%. Additionally, Delaware scored 19 points off of turnovers, compared to the Lady Hawks’ 11.

Junior Jasmine Dickey was impressive once again, with 26 points and 11 rebounds. The same major contributors from yesterday’s contest showed up as well for the Blue Hens, junior guard Jewel Smalls with 16 points and 6 rebounds, and redshirt junior forward Ty Battle with 10 and 10. Senior forward Lizzie Oleary chipped in eight points and four rebounds.

Despite the loss, the Lady Hawks did score a season-high 40 points in the paint.

UNCW was led by senior forward Carol Anne-Obusek with 18 points and 11 rebounds, and junior guard Za’Nautica Downs with 17 points and seven rebounds. Obusek has scored in double figures in eight of her nine games this season. Downs has scored in double figures for six straight games.
