WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Less than an hour before the scheduled 1 p.m. tipoff, UNCW’s men’s basketball game against Drexel (5-2) was postponed due to a positive COVID-19 virus test in the Seahawk program.

According to UNCW Athletics, “UNCW will pause all men’s basketball team activities.” The Hawks (6-3) were scheduled to take on the Dragons in the conference opener this afternoon in a rematch of the 2019-20 CAA Championship.

The announcement was made via Twitter through multiple news outlets, including the official page of CAA Basketball which stated:

“The Colonial Athletic Association has announced that the men’s basketball games between UNCW and Drexel scheduled for Jan. 2 and Jan. 3, 2021 have been postponed due to a positive COVID-19 case within the UNCW program. A decision on rescheduling the UNCW/Drexel games will be made at a later date.”

UNCW’s women’s basketball team is still scheduled to host Drexel inside of Trask Coliseum at 1 p.m. today.
