ORANGEBURG, South Carolina – UNCW (2-1) bounced back from their loss to Campbell with a 13-point victory over South Carolina State (0-4) at the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center on Monday evening.

The game was close, with the Seahawks only leading 29-27 at the half. However, the Lady Hawks exploded with a third quarter 12-4 run, shooting 40% from the field, and an impressive 60% from behind the arc, to pull away from the Lady Bulldogs. Seahawk junior guard, Za’Nautica Downs scored nine of those points, including two from behind the arc.

Downs scored 32 points in the contest, with 25 of those coming in the second half. Her six triples are the most by a UNCW player since Feb. 23, 2018, when Timber Tate also hit six at Charleston. Her 14-point third quarter was one-point shy of tying the UNCW record for points in a single quarter.

UNCW outrebounded the Lady Bulldogs 40-31, with 17 of those being offensive leading to 16 second chance points. Senior forward Carol-Anne Obusek was a big part of the rebounding game with a career-high 13 rebounds. She also added 17 points to the Seahawks victory.

The Lady Bulldogs leading scorers were freshman forward Trinity Klock, with 13 points and six rebounds, and freshman guard Somer Wilson, with 12 points. Senior guard Jacquece Alston added nine points, five rebounds and seven assists.

The win for the Lady Hawks kept their perfect all-time streak with South Carolina State. They host UNCG (0-4) on Friday, Dec. 11th at 2 p.m. in Trask Coliseum.
