WILMINGTON – UNC Wilmington’s swimming and diving team reported a cluster of seven COVID-19 cases on Monday, Oct. 12. The report marks the second outbreak amongst UNCW Athletics; the first coming exactly one week ago which involved UNCW’s men’s soccer, women’s basketball and softball teams.

The individuals involved in this cluster are now isolated and are receiving medical treatment as needed. Contact tracing has been initiated to prevent further spread of the virus. In order to protect the individuals’ health information, UNCW will not be releasing the names of the individuals who tested positive for the virus.

This is still a developing story. As more information is gathered, future articles will follow up with the condition of the student-athletes who tested positive along with the outlook of the 2020-2021 seasons for all UNCW athletic teams.
