WILMINGTON — UNC Wilmington’s Marten Linssen has announced that he plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal heading into next season’s action. The sophomore averaged 10.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game — third best on the team in both categories.

Former interim head coach Rob Burke placed much of his focus on feeding the post — Linssen became a key piece in UNCW’s offense in that regard.

He, along with fellow big man Imajae Dodd, hoped to fill the shoes that Devontae Cacok left after the 2018-19 season. Currently, the only true post players left on the squad are Dodd and John Bowen.

Last season, he started 29 games and cashed in double figures in all but one of his last seven contests, including a double-double (16 pts, 13 reb) against College of Charleston in February.

Linssen transferred from Valparaiso after his freshman season before redshirting at UNCW for the 2018-19 season. He leaves the Port City with two years of eligibility remaining.
