WILMINGTONAfter leading his team to a 3-1 start to the season, Ron Evans has been recognized as the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week to open the 2020 campaign.

Evans homered twice while hitting .545 at the dish. The Raleigh native was the main source of offense for UNC Wilmington during opening weekend, as he scored twice, batted in six and slugged 1.182 at the plate.

The true freshman has shown a lot of poise and confidence at the plate through his first four collegiate games. His first Seahawk at-bat resulted in a two-run shot to left, which was later topped when he sealed the game with a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth to finish off a comeback over Dayton.

Evans and the Seahawks will return to the field on Wednesday, Feb. 19 when they travel to Conway, S.C. to take on Coastal Carolina in a matchup that was postponed on Tuesday due to inclement weather.
