For the second time this season, UNC Wilmington infielder Mason Berne was named Colonial Athletic Association Player-of-the-Week.

Berne, who was given CAA Co-Player-of-the-Week honors on March 26, helped UNCW to sweep conference rival James Madison this past weekend. The senior batted 6-for-14 (.429) with a double, homer and six RBIs over the three-game series.

Berne also provided the winning run in the Seahawks’ 7-6 victory on Saturday after hitting a three-run home run, which snapped a three-all deadlock. Berne’s stout weekend was made even better as his consecutive games reached safely was extended to 40, which was lengthened to 41 on Wednesday.

Berne went 1-for-5 in Wednesday’s matchup, including a one-out double in the bottom of the ninth to put UNCW in position to give head coach Mark Scalf his 900th career victory. However, nothing would come of it in the 5-4 loss to No. 10 East Carolina.

The Seahawks (29-18) will head to Boston for a three-game series against conference-leader Northeastern (30-15) beginning on Friday.
