Travolta filming in Wilmington area
Academy Award-winner John Travolta stars in Paramount Pictures’ “Domestic Disturbance,” a thriller currently being filmed in Wilmington. The film also stars Vince Vaughn, Teri Polo, Matthew O’Leary and Steve Buscemi.
The film portrays John Travolta as a divorced father of a boy, played by Matthew O’Leary, who witnesses a murder in which his stepfather is the suspect. Only the boy’s divorced father believes his son was indeed a bystander.
“We’ll be shooting all over Wilmington,” said the film’s publicist, Peter Silbermann. So far, scenes have been filmed in downtown Wilmington, Southport, Hampstead and St. Mary’s.
Junior Jayme Westman lives on Orange Street downtown. The production company sent out a letter telling her that they would be filming in the area and strange cars may be parked on her street. “It was nice of them to send a letter,” Westman said. “It’s neat but it’s a pain. It made it hard to pull out of my driveway one morning, but it was cool to be a few blocks away from John Travolta.”
Filming is scheduled to continue until mid-May, and the film is intended to be released during the fall of 2001. It will be shown in all domestic theatres, as well as select international theatres.
Travolta has received two Academy Award nominations in the past, one each for “Saturday Night Fever” and “Pulp Fiction.” He has also starred in “A Civil Action,” “Primary Colors,” “The General’s Daughter,” “Face/Off,” “Michael” and “Phenomenon” to name a few.
Vaughn, who plays the stepfather of Travolta’s son, has appeared in “Swingers,” “The Cell,” “Psycho” and “The Lost World: Jurassic Park.”
Polo most recently starred in the hit “Meet the Parents” and has an upcoming film called “The Unsaid,” in which she plays opposite Andy Garcia. She has also had recurring roles in the sitcoms “Felicity” and “Sports Night.”
O’Leary has been seen in several television programs, including “The Fearing Mind,” “Mom’s Got a Date With a Vampire,” “Early Edition” and “Turks.”
Buscemi is a well-known actor who has starred in numerous films including “28 Days,” “Fargo,” “Armageddon” and “The Wedding Singer.” He has also received a Directors’ Guild of America nomination for directing an episode of “Homicide: Life on the Street.”
Harold Becker directs “Domestic Disturbance.” Becker has had a successful career in which he has directed films that featured the talents of James Woods, Ted Danson, Tom Cruise, Sean Penn, Al Pacino, Alec Baldwin and Nicole Kidman. The majority of his films have been of the thriller genres.
The screenplay for “Domestic Disturbance” was written by Lewis Colick, who has most recently written the screenplay for “October Sky.” His other credits include “The Ghosts of Mississippi,” “Bulletproof,” “Judgement Night,” “Unlawful Entry” and “The Dirt Bike Kid.”
