Wilmington is “Hotting Up” this April with Iration

Iration returns to Wilmington next month in support of their newest album, “Hotting Up.” Their tour will feature several of their newest songs, along with crowd favorites from previous albums like “Back Around” and “Time Bomb.” The Seahawk had the opportunity to sit down with the band’s frontman, Micah Pueschel, to discuss the upcoming tour dates and the band’s new music.

The Seahawk: The last time we spoke was almost a year ago. What has the band been up to over the last year?

Micah Pueschel: Well, last August we put out a new record, “Hotting Up.” That’s the biggest thing. We did the first half of our tour in the fall, but really that’s about it.

TS: What’s different about this album than the previous ones?

MP: We worked with a different producer and we had Micah Brown join us, which brought in a new sound. He added the slide and a different style of guitar than what was on the previous albums. “Hotting Up” is more uptempo and more danceable. We noticed our live shows were more downtempo so we decided we wanted a different sound with bigger energy.

TS: You guys have toured all over the states. Are there plans to go abroad with the tour any time soon?

MP: The next goal for us is South America and maybe Australia and New Zealand in 2017. We’re not quite there yet in Europe. To get to Europe you need a lot of radio support and we just don’t have that yet there. We have fans in Brazil, Chile, Peru and Central America because this style is pretty big down there, so we want to make it down there to see those fans.

TS: Will the band be playing at any big festivals this summer?

MP: We’re doing BottleRock in Napa, CA. There are a few others that aren’t announced yet so I can’t say, but we’re mainly doing a lot of one-off shows and big shows and finishing up the tour. We’ve got two nights in Wilmington next month and the second show is almost sold out. Wilmington has been a crazy market for us. We started out at the Soap Box when we first came, and we didn’t know what kind of crowd we would have because we had no idea where Wilmington was located. We didn’t know Wilmington was by the ocean. We plan our days off around Wilmington now so we can surf and we have some connections in town.

TS: The band has been posting pictures from the studio on social media. Are you guys working on new music?

MP: We’ve been writing since December and we’ve been in the studio just kind of getting songs together. It’s probably just going to be a single or a two before the summer. We’re also working on acoustic versions of past songs. Fans have been asking for one for a while and now we have a big enough catalog to choose from. That’ll probably be out before the end of this year.

TS: So what can fans expect at the shows next month? What do you have that’s new for this tour?

MP: It will be fun. We’re going to take people on a bit of a journey. We’ll probably only do about 90 minutes of music. There will be parts where people can chill and then parts where everyone can dance. People who have seen us before will get to see a better and more awesome, bigger production.

Iration will be performing two shows next month on April 14 and 15 at the Greenfield Lake Amphitheatre. Tickets can be purchased online through TicketFly or on the band’s website.
