The truth may be He’s Just Not That Into You

Andrea Cavallier

Think you understand the perplexing thoughts, ideas and feelings that formulate a guy’s psyche? Well you haven’t heard anything until you’ve read the latest from “Sex and the City’s” writer and consultants, Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo.

Liz Tuccillo, former executive story editor of HBO’s Emmy winning “Sex and the City,” puts her two-cents in as the female side of the story. However, she is more in the shadow of her writing partner, and former consultant of “Sex and the City,” Greg Behrendt. Greg is a smart-aleck, bold enough to tell women the complete truth.

The book, first publicized on “Oprah,” is compiled of the endless sob stories of women writing in, desperate for answers to their hopeless love lives. Some of these letters read like, “Dear Greg, I’m dating this guy who ends conversations saying he’ll call me at a certain time. Like, ‘I’ll call you over the weekend.’ Or ‘I’ll give you a call tomorrow.’ Or if he has to take a call on the other line, he promises, ‘I’ll call you back in a few minutes.’ And he doesn’t.” She wonders if he is just busy but Greg soon retorts with, “‘Busy’ is another word for ‘asshole.’ ‘Asshole’ is another word for the guy you’re dating.”

This seems harsh and stereotypical and though it may not apply to every situation, it turns out to be true in many circumstances. Behrendt and Tuccillo’s dry wit and fun advice is meant to help educate women and keep them from wasting their valuable time on a man that obviously doesn’t want to be with them. They’re not saying every guy is a waste of time but rather, keep your eyes out for the guy who will call, the guy who will be into you.

While the advice is knowledgeable and humorous, most of it is blatantly obvious. Though it proclaims to reveal the ‘no-excuse truth to understanding guys,’ it really is only a repetition of what we’ve learned our whole lives, and what we’ve known all this time. So guys, let us know to our face when you’re not into us so we do not have to constantly refer to that certain pink and green elongated advice column.

Ladies, worry not, your man is out there and there’s no need to waste your time on guys who won’t even grant you the courtesy of a phone call. This book is a fun read but just remember, if his actions remind you of something you’ve read, the truth may be, “he’s just not that into you.”
