Galloway begins tours of WB sights: Dawson fans weep with joy

In the past 7 years, Wilmington has become well known as the home of television’s teen dramas. In 1998, the WB aired “Dawson’s Creek” which became an instant hit. Then in 2003, “One Tree Hill” debuted and is now entertaining teenagers and young adults every Tuesday night. For viewers who are familiar with Wilmington, they frequently recognize the backgrounds where the actors shoot their most memorable scenes.

Yet, those fans that live in Galloway will get a chance to see first hand where their favorite characters have filmed the scenes they still hold close to their hearts. On April 26, “Backstage Pass” will give several fans the opportunity to travel to the popular sets of “One Tree Hill.” These include the basketball court near the USS North Carolina where Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) often plays, “Karen’s Café” near Port City Java Café and the Cotton Exchange. Sites that were often used in “Dawson’s Creek” to be visited include an arc located at the Cotton Exchange and the boardwalk near the waterway.

Laura Smith, an RA at Galloway, created this program. Last year it was going to be called “Stalking the Stars,” but the name was changed because they were afraid there would soon be restraining orders involved. This year, it’s called “Backstage Pass” and will be hosted by Aaron Whitesell, this year’s homecoming king.

“‘Backstage Pass’ is a community development program that allows residents to gain a stronger appreciation for Wilmington by taking them on a fun, insightful tour highlighting the city’s filming hot spots,” quoted Laura. “The program was particularly fun last year because residents got to meet Moira Kelly, who is now in Wilmington filming ‘One Tree Hill.'”

All the spaces for the first tour have been filled but there is still a chance to get on the list. Those interested in the tour should contact Laura Smith in Galloway, room 100, as soon as possible.
