Boot camp kicks off men’s fall fashion
September 7, 2005
Guys, as we approach our first month of school and settle into our classes, it is important not to neglect one of the most important classes of all. In our first lesson of Men’s Fashion 101, we will have a crash course on the five must have trends for this fall.
“Dukes of Hazzard” is the inspiration for this fall’s hottest trend, cowboy boots. Designers all over the world have produced lines of fashionable cowboy boots for men, to mimic the trendsetters, Luke and Bo Duke. These kicks have shown up on men everywhere from walking Hollywood’s red carpet, to dudes hitting up clubs in New York and Los Angeles.
“There is nothing sexier than a guy in cowboy boots. It says, ‘I like to have fun. I have style. And I am a wild one.'” sophomore Megan Floyd said. You heard it guys, get up and ride.
Denim has been on the rise of fashion over the past few seasons but this fall, men’s jeans are hotter than ever. The reason behind this is because designer labels have been focusing on the trendy male. Prada is introducing its long awaited first denim line this fall. If Prada cuts into the college funds, labels such as True Religion and Seven are nothing less than amazing. They are custom fit and worn in for a comfortable hipster look.
Teaming up with denim is must have trend number three, the blazer. Not just for the office anymore, blazers with vintage tees or shirt and a loose tie, screams class and masculinity. For an edgier look, try a tweed or dark velvet blazer, ála Willy Wonka. Also, make a one-of-a- kind blazer. Head to the thrift store, purchase a grey or pinstripe blazer and add some studs or fabric paint to customize your own unique look. Just remember, in fall, stick to dark or dull colors on your outermost layer.
Vests are also a big office and club scene look. Seen on celebs such as Ashton, Leonardo, Johnny and DJ AM, the vest is a great piece for those guys who aren’t into dressing up. Put a pinstripe, argyle or grey vest over a brighter long sleeve T-shirt and jeans. This can be a major upgrade to your typical Saturday night outfit; think brownie points with your girl.
Kayla Leasure agrees, “When you go out to a club, there are guys everywhere. It is the guy who can dress that gets my attention. He is the guy I want to dance with.”
Finally, trend number five, vintage pants. This old school look allows you to pair striped, plaid or any kind of pant out of your grandfather’s closet with a solid colored shirt, sweater or denim jacket. Baggy or worn to fit, it is hard to go wrong with these pants.
Well, class is dismissed for now. Make sure you do your homework. Take these ideas and run with them. Remember, be sure to try out your new style out in your labs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.
