Boseman Gallery presents “Rwanda Shares”

On Thursday, Sept. 21, UNCW’s Boseman Gallery presented Innocent Nkurunziza’s exhibit, “Rwanda Shares.” The exhibit was formally opened at 5:30 p.m., and will remain open until Oct. 25.

The exhibition portrays “Mother Rwanda” through the use of abstract impressionism. Nkurunziza’s usage of bright and vibrant colors held a distinct, soulful style all its own that left every viewer in the room captivated. Even for someone who has no eye for art.

The brightly lit gallery was filled with an eclectic variation of textures, colors, and patterns that showed the artist’s apparent love for his home. His pieces painted a detailed story of the joy and happiness Rwanda brings him into the minds of viewers. Themes of nature were also a central focal point throughout Nkurunziza’s art.

“Nature and the complexities of people are what inspire me the most,” said Nkurunziza.

However, Nkurunziz’s ultimate testament to his homeland was the exhibit’s theme of unity.

“I want my art to show freedom, love, equality, unity,” said Nkurunziz. “I want people to feel like they can achieve their dreams.”

Nkurunziza hopes to convey that sense of unity into the hearts of all who view his art. With projects such as Ivuka Arts, a haven where hopeful artists can find mentors, this soulful artist is well on his way to connecting people on a broader scale: one brush stroke at a time.
