Dittos moving from Fisher to Randall

Dittos, the UNCW copying and printing center, is moving from the Fisher University Union to Randall Library, according to Director of Auxiliary Services, Brian Dailey.

All current services offered at Dittos, such as laminating, scanning, and faxing will be available at the new location with extended, though currently undetermined, hours. The center will relocate to the vending services room near TAC, moving the vending machines to the Java City area.

Dailey, who worked closely with the Student Government Association to make this decision, says the move could possibly occur over Christmas break, allowing students access to the new location in January.

“Our plan is still in the stages with [the Office of] Facilities,” said Dailey. “Facilities are working on the final proposal, trying to get it ready on time.”

If everything goes according to plan, Dailey believes the move will be positive for students, especially during midterms and exams.

“We realized if we could make a home for the iPrint in a way that students would react in a positive way, it made sense,” said Dailey.

After the move, the space in Fisher will continue providing students with passport, FedEx shipping, balloon, and KODAK Photo kiosk services. Dailey says Auxiliary Services is still wrestling with additional services to include in Fisher.

“We’re just looking at various things,” said Dailey. “We’re planning to reach out to the community even more with the passport services.”

SGA wrote a resolution advocating the move, and unanimously voted in favor of the change on Oct. 30, according to President Keith Fraser.

“We did support the move for Dittos going to the library,” said Fraser. “It’s a beneficial move for students.”

Now that Dittos will be in close approximation with TAC, students will have access to both locations’ services in the same building.

SGA At-Large Senator and TAC Team Lead Ashley Nassar thinks the move will provide students will better service from both Dittos and TAC.

“Usually, if someone has printing issues, they’re time sensitive, and we can’t help them to the best of our abilities because we’re not specialized in iPrint,” said Nassar. “If [Dittos] is in here, it’ll be easier for us to direct students there.”

Dailey agrees that students have stated numerous times in the past that having Dittos’ services in the library would work conveniently, especially when they are studying. Students will also benefit from job openings.

“There will be additional jobs for students,” said Dailey. “It’s kind of a win-win.”

He adds that the new Dittos might undergo a name change to the iPrint Shop. Although Auxiliary Services hasn’t settled on a name, Dailey says they will coordinate with the library to make this final decision.
