YouTube sensation Timeflies coming to UNCW

UNCW’s Association for Campus Entertainment (ACE) recently revealed the talent for their annual Spring show, Timeflies, a musical duo who gained fame while in school at Tufts University outside of Boston, MA.

The hip-hop, freestyle team, composed of musicians Cal Shapiro and Rob Resnick, went viral from their musical series “Timeflies Tuesday” on YouTube, where the two guys wrote random words and phrases on strips of paper with their friends and pulled them out of a bowl to incorporate into their mixed-beats.

Shapiro and Resnick started playing together in their university band The Ride and formed Timeflies in 2010. Known for their individual style combining elements of rock, funk, pop, blues and hip-hop, with electronica undertones, the duo retains a vast following of college students.

Front man Shapiro is the voice of Timeflies while Resnick, or Rez, is the instruments, ranging from drums, guitar and piano.

In their videos, and on their website, the two sing about (and with) beer and good scotch and embody the laid-back, intrinsic talent college students identify with. With the sound of LMFAO and the style of Bruno Mars, the increasingly popular duo is here to stay and coming to The Dub.

Timeflies will be playing in Kenan Auditorium April 25. Doors will open at 7 p.m.and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available for UNCW students at noon on Feb. 13 for $15 and $18 the day of the show. Tickets will open to the public March 1 for $22 and $25 on the day of the show. You can visit the ACE event page for more information.
