Retiring Congressman Mike McIntyre donated a collection of congressional papers to Randall Library’s Special Collection.

Announced on Nov. 10, the documents donated to Randall Library span Congressman McIntyre’s nine terms in the United States House of Representatives.  It will now go through a process to remain preserved and searchable through UNCW databases.

“After all the material has been received we will begin processing the collection,” UNCW’s coordinator for library special collections, Gerald Parnell said. “This involves organizing the material, rehousing the paper material in acid free folders and boxes, and creating an online finding aid.”

UNC Wilmington’s special collection houses rare books, manuscripts and historical documents. The collection received from Congressman McIntyre contains papers, correspondence, speeches, reports, congressional documents, photographs, campaign materials, awards, certificates, plagues, newspaper and magazine articles, caps and pins.

The special collections section of Randall Library spoke with Congressman McIntyre in July about the collection. Several items arrived last week, while the remainder of the collection will arrive within the next 10 to 14 days.

“Congressman McIntyre’s generous contribution will be a great point of pride in Randall Library’s special collections and will be a significant source of research material for UNCW’s students, faculty, staff and the Wilmington community for years to come,” university librarian Sarah Watstein said.
