President and Vice president-elects Russia Naranjo and Laura Grossheim took the win on Thursday, March 26 to lead the student body for the ‘26-‘27 academic year. But a conflict with a policy in the UNCW Housing and Residence Life organization will lead to a slightly different outcome in terms of student body vice president.
SGA released an Instagram post explaining that HRL has a policy that “would not allow Resident Assistants to also serve as Student Body President or Vice President.” Vice President-elect Grossheim is set to continue serving as a Resident Assistant for the upcoming school year, and chose to “forfeit the position to prioritize her future residents.”
With President-elect Naranjo staying in her position, the vice president position still needs to be filled. SGA will be holding a special election to fill it.
A special election happens when there is a vacancy in either of the student body presidential roles. The current senior-class president will hold the special election within 10 days of the vice presidential vacancy.
Students who have previously served at least one semester as an SGA senate member or executive are eligible to appear on the ballot for the student body vice president. These students can submit a statement of qualifications by Sunday, March 29 at 11:59 p.m. at the link in the SGA Instagram bio.
Campaigning for the position will then begin on Tuesday, March 31 at 12:01 a.m., with voting opening the same day at 9 a.m. Voting will be closed on April 1 at 3:00 p.m.
