Halloween is a long-standing tradition for many people, including our students and staff here at UNCW, so here are some of the new characters we saw on campus in 2024.
Joseph Holly dressed up because he wanted to, “give people a smile,” he said.
Couple Dock Derrick and Ella Blamy, dressed up as Lilo and Stitch. Blamy leaves us with the iconic words from the movie, “Ohana means family.”
Derrick and Blamey were not the only ones to have this idea. Here, Sarah Myint and Jadrien Lora also dressed up as Lilo and Stitch. “We wanted to do a cute couples’ costume and do something fun for Halloween,” said Myint.
Jacob Bechtold chose to dress up as Art the Clown, a character played by David Howard Thornton in the movie “Terrifier.” Bechtold said, “I am dressed up today because my teacher said that if we come to class in Halloween costumes we would get extra credit on the test.”
Conor Quadarella dressed up as a leprechaun. When asked why, he answered, “It’s a costume I can wear twice a year.”
Sofia dressed up as Elain Archeron from “A Court of Thorns and Roses” by Sarah J. Maas for this Halloween.
Gray Mock dressed as a traffic cone because, “I thought it was funny and I liked it and wanted to be bold,” said Mock.
Nicholas Shelley dressed up as a black cat this year because, “I always dress as a black cat,” he said.
Tim Williams (on the far left) dressed as Abraham Lincoln. Esme Lee (next to Williams) dressed as a cat lady. Rhiley Harris dressed up as Joe Biden, and Ella Cacali (on the far right) dressed up as Adam Sandler.
Emma Padgett dressed up as the Mad Hatter and left us with the sentiment, “I may be cringe, but I am free.”
Katie Cozza dressed up as Jason Voorhees. “My teacher told me to dress up today and it’s my favorite holiday,” Cozza said. “Stay spooky, UNCW.”
Gwen, dressed as a gothic witch, alongside Alex, who dressed as Sara Sanderson from “Hocus Pocus.”
Henry Gardner wanted to dress as a Renaissance peasant. Why? “I’m not a big partier, so I figured I might as well dress up now… might be funny,” he said.
Nex dressed up as Umbreon and Emma dressed as Snorlax, both characters from Pokémon.
Loren Shimel dressed up as a mushroom for Halloween. “It’s Halloween and I like dressing up,” says Shimel, whose environmental science major served as another inspiration for the costume.
Photographed above is Zoe Sawyer as a ringmaster. Sawyer said, “I love Halloween. It’s something fun to do.”
Staff member Cheyenne Fluharty dressed as a kitchen witch. She said, “I enjoy Halloween a lot,” when asked why she chose to dress up today.
Professor Christopher Sibona dressed up as Troy Bolton. “I feel like I should be breaking free,” Sibona said.
Halloween serves as a beloved holiday, where you can have fun, dress up and eat as much candy as you want, so you better start planning for next year.
