- Popular Movie Characters
Over the course of 2024, a variety of blockbuster movies packed with Halloween-worthy characters have been released. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” released just in time for Halloween, is projected to be very popular this year. According to Frightgeist, Shrunken Head Bob from the “Beetlejuice” sequel is trending at number one. Additionally, many of the characters from “Inside Out 2” are also trending, with Envy anked at number six, Anger at number 12 and Disgust at number 13. Lady Deadpool comes in at number 10 and Wolverine at number 14, following the release of “Deadpool & Wolverine” earlier this summer.
2. Trending Celebrities
In addition to blockbuster movies and fan-adored characters, 2024 has also been quite the year for popular music. Sabrina Carpenter, who released her newest album “Short n’ Sweet” in August, is trending on Frightgeist’s list at number nine, the popular search being “heart corset” following her performance at this year’s Gov Ball, one of New York’s biggest music festivals. Indy 100 predicted that alongside Carpenter, artist Chapell Roan and her variety of performance looks will be popular for costumes this year. Beyonce’s “Cowboy Carter” and Charlie XCX’s “Brat” are also predicted to be popular costumes following the release of their trending albums.

Since the beginning of the internet, meme costume trends have circulated social media, with costumes following popular memes on apps like Vine and TikTok. This year, many new Olympians rose to fame, one of which is trending on Frightgeist’s list at number two. Rachael Gun, also known as Raygun, went viral after her performance as a breakdancer representing Australia in 2024’s Paris Olympics. Along with the famous breakdancer is the Chipotle burrito, ranking in at number 11.
