Tuesday, Nov. 9
Lecture with David Zucchino: Author of “Wilmington’s Lie”
The lecture at First Baptist Church in downtown Wilmington features David Zucchino, author of “Wilmington’s Lie”. The book tells the story of the 1898 massacre through intimidation and violence, stuffed ballot boxes and armed men who killed at least 60 black men in the streets. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and there is no fee for admission.
Wednesday, Nov. 10
Movie: “Duty Free”
The Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers is showing the film “Duty Free” at Veteran’s Hall on the campus of UNCW. After a 75-year-old immigrant mother gets fired without cause from her lifelong job as a hotel housekeeper, her son takes her on a bucket-list adventure to reclaim her life. The event begins at 6 p.m.
Cucalorus Festival
The Cucalorus Festival in Wilmington, NC, celebrates independent and international film, creativity on stage and innovation in entrepreneurship. Ticket prices vary.
Thursday, Nov. 11
Veterans Day Exhibit
Cape Fear Museum in Wilmington celebrates Veterans Day with the opening of “MacMillan: Artist as Soldier,” an exhibition featuring more than 50 paintings and illustrations. Tickets cost $3-$8 and the event begins at 11 a.m.
UNCW Theatre: “The Christians”
Opening night of “The Christians” at the Mainstage Theatre. In the last 20 years, Pastor Paul’s church went from a modest storefront to a congregation of thousands, with classrooms for Sunday School, a coffee shop in the lobby and a baptismal font as big as a swimming pool. The show begins at 8 p.m.

UNCW Men’s Basketball
Men’s basketball game versus Guilford begins at 7 p.m.
Saturday Nov. 13
Leland Homecoming
The Leland Homecoming at Founders Park features live music, food trucks, games, fireworks and more. The event is free of charge and begins at 4 p.m.
A Conversation with Stephen Hayes
Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington’s a conversation with artist Stephen Hayes. Deputy Director Heather Wilson shares a special conversation with “Boundless” artist Stephen Hayes and two of the men he cast for the new USCT sculpture. The event begins at 3 p.m.
