WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW’s Luke Gesell and Jac Croom were named CAA Pitcher and Rookie of the Week after the Seahawks took all three games from visiting VCU to open the 2021 season. 

Gesell picked up his first win of the season in game one of Sunday’s double header. The redshirt senior allowed only one earned run in five innings of work and struck out four. 

Croom’s .417 batting average led the Hawks’ offensive efforts over the weekend, including a three-hit game in the series finale. 

UNCW will host Western Carolina University on Feb. 26-28 for a three-game series. First pitch will be Friday at 4 p.m.
