WILMINGTON – UNC Wilmington’s men’s basketball team will take part in the Mako Medical Asheville Classic on Nov. 27-28, 2020, at UNC Asheville’s Kimmel Arena.

The Seahawks will be joined by Troy, Western Carolina, and the host, UNC Asheville Bulldogs. Friday’s announcement helps UNCW secure a major part of their non-conference schedule for the upcoming 2020-21 season.

November’s trip to Asheville will be the first for the Seahawks since Dec. 28, 2013, when the Bulldogs defeated UNCW 75-61. However, the Seahawks have been successful against UNCA, heading into the MTE tournament with a 16-9 series lead.

Troy will offer more of a mysterious matchup for UNCW. The Seahawks and Trojans have only met twice before, each team splitting the two games. The two teams last met almost 12 years ago in 2008, when Troy won the high-scoring affair, 101-92.

Due to COVID-19 safety protocols, no fans will be allowed to attend the event. All four games of the tournament will be streamed on ESPN+.
