Each week, The Seahawk will recognize standout performers from UNC Wilmington athletics. Honorees are chosen based on overall performance. Generally, only one athlete will be honored per athletic event.

Baseball

Ron Evans, freshman

Evans took home Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week honors in week one of the 2020 campaign. The freshman homered twice during opening weekend, batting .545. Along with his two runs, Evans also had six RBIs and helped the Seahawks pick up three big wins during opening weekend.

Landen Roupp, junior

Roupp led the Seahawks to a 3-2 victory against Bryant last Saturday during The Seahawk Classic. The Rocky Mount native struck out 11 batters to earn the individual win, as well as UNCW’s second win of the young season.

Women’s basketball

Carol-Anne Obusek, junior

Obusek came in clutch at James Madison this past weekend, knocking down a career high 19 points. Despite her efforts, the Seahawks still picked up a loss, but the Cary native had a phenomenal individual performance. She went 8-for-12 from the floor and had seven rebounds as well.

Men’s tennis

Bruno Caula, sophomore & Daniel Groom, senior

Caula and Groom teamed up to earn a doubles point for UNCW as the Seahawks took on Charleston this past Sunday. The duo knocked off the Cougars tandem of Ben Cawston and Karl Mosterd 6-3, on top of each picking up singles wins for the ‘Hawks.

Men’s swimming and diving

Kolbein Bjugan, freshman

The freshman opened up the 2020 CAA Swimming and Diving Championships in style, earning a first-place finish in the men’s 1-meter dive. Competition continues until Feb. 22 at the Christiansburg Aquatics Center in Christiansburg, Virginia.
