In my mind I’m still on Spring Break, how do I refocus myself to finish strong for the rest of the semester?

Fall break and spring break are especially hard to recover from. They are long enough to enjoy yourself but not long enough to feel rejuvenated. Spring break in everyone’s mind is the halfway point through the semester. You’ve come this far and you owe it to yourself to finish strong. So, buckle down and get it together, because it’ll be summer before you know it and you’ll thank yourself for working so hard.

I’m a senior graduating in May and I have no idea what I’m doing with my life.

College is weird, not just because you live, eat, breathe, and sleep at the same place that you go to school, but because a lot of us are pretty much pseudo-adults. While there are bills to be paid, groceries to be cooked, errands to run, and a world of new responsibilities that we’re introduced to, there’s still a whole realm of adulthood that we have yet to explore. I mentioned all of that to say that it’s okay to be scared. Growing up is a scary part of life. Something that you should do ASAP is to contact a mentor, professor, or adviser. They have all been in your shoes and I’m positive that they can provide you with advice and encouraging words. No matter what you do, do not let the lives of your peers make you feel inferior. Everyone’s story is different, and as long as you keep believing and applying yourself, you too will be successful. Remember to explore your options and stay open-minded. You’ve got time to figure things out.

I love my girlfriend as a person but I’m just not happy anymore. How do I break up with her without being a jerk?

Whew. Now this is a locked, loaded, and incredibly complex question. The only thing worse than going through a messy breakup is falling out of love with someone. You begin to second guess your feelings or ignore them completely, making you an unapproachable and ignorant partner. It does no one any good to stay in a relationship that you’re not happy in. While the “just friends” thing doesn’t work for everyone, it’s not impossible. You owe it not only to your significant other but also to yourself to be upfront about your happiness. Break-ups suck no matter what shape or size they come in, but there’s no better way to get through this than to rip off the band aid.
