I have found myself procrastinating a lot during this semester and I need some tips to help me stay on task with my schoolwork.

This is something that a majority of college students deal with. Because we have so much freedom, we have to make sure that we make time to efficiently complete our schoolwork. My first recommendation would be to set aside a certain amount of time each day for you to complete homework. This will help you easily fit this time into your daily schedule and also help you get in a routine of doing homework during a certain time of the day. A great resource that can help you do this is the study rooms located in the library. You can reserve these rooms for a maximum of two hours per day. Having a room reserved can help hold you accountable for showing up and completing assignments or studying during this time. It also provides you with a quiet environment that will help you focus.

I’m in the process of applying to grad school and I’m nervous about asking for letters of recommendations. How should I approach my professors?

Keep in mind that this is a normal thing to be nervous about so don’t feel like you are the only one experiencing this. I have not personally gone through this process yet, but I do have some close friends who have. Individuals who have been through the graduate school application process can be a very helpful resource to you, so find someone and ask them some questions that you might have. A common misconception that people have during this time is that you have to be your professor’s favorite person for them to write you a recommendation letter. This is not true! Professors know that a lot of students need these letters and they are more than willing to write them. So, approaching your professor is not as nerve-racking as you think. It can be beneficial to provide a resume with some of your highlights during your time at UNCW so that they can have a better idea of what to include in the letter. I hope this helps, but talking to someone who has been through the process may be more beneficial.

I’m looking for a ministry to get involved in on campus. Do you know any information about any?

There are several campus ministries that meet at different times during the week. Cru is a college ministry that meets on Thursday nights in Cameron Hall. They also host several off-campus events, such as a luau party and a formal night on the battleship. Younglife is a popular campus ministry that meets on Wednesday nights on campus. They also host events outside of these meetings, such as worship nights and basketball games. Overflow is a bigger college ministry that meets off campus at Port City Community Church. They meet on Tuesday nights at 7 P.M. Each of these ministries provides a welcoming environment to all students so don’t be nervous to go for the first time. There is always someone there who will sit with you and introduce you to new people. Each ministry also offers a lot of ways to get more involved, such as potentially becoming a leader or volunteer for that ministry. You can take a look at their Instagram pages if you would like to see more about these ministries or get involved.
