Wilmington, N.C. – A tropical storm watch has been issued for inland New Hanover and surrounding counties. The National Weather Service updated the details of the tropical storm watch at 7:38 p.m. Aug. 28 to include the possibility of wind gusts up to 57 mph.

There is no threat to life expected, but flooding in combination with strong winds could damage property and pull weak trees from the ground, says the most recent public alert.

The tropical storm is expected to make landfall at 2 a.m., and Wilmington is expected to receive anywhere between six to 12 inches of rain.

Update: 8:30 p.m. EST

The Office of University Relations emailed a statement to students and faculty detailing their decision to keep UNCW running on its normal schedule for Tuesday, Aug. 29. No schedule changes are expected for the Wave shuttle service to campus.

The Student Recreation Center will open 30 minutes later than usual at 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.
