Hello,
I’m going to be a freshman at UNCW this fall and I was wondering how and when I could join the seahawk newspaper staff. I was on my high schools newspaper staff all four years and served as the managing editor my junior year and editor in chief my senior year. I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Seahawk*

Alex Putman | The Seahawk

Dear Seahawk,

We have received several messages regarding how and when to get involved at The Seahawk, UNCW’s student newspaper, and especially from incoming freshman. The editorial board of the 2017-2018 academic year wanted to reach out to those interested in becoming a part of our team.

We welcome seahawks from all walks of life. There is no set level of experience required to get started at The Seahawk. Our editorial board is available to answer any questions one may have about their work with us, and pride ourselves on strengthening the community of students working hard to keep The Seahawk running, growing and relevant.

We welcome anyone interested in joining The Seahawk to our weekly meetings on Mondays in Dobo Hall 103 at 5pm. During the beginning of the semester, we will be doing thorough introductions and briefings on what to expect working with us, and what we expect from our members in return. After this, the editorial board will pitch our story ideas of the week along with their designated due dates within the week. Then, new and returning writers will be given the opportunity to pitch their own stories. The editorial board will remain after the conclusion of the meeting to answer further questions. Those who are interested in other forms of involvement are also encouraged to attend the meetings as well and let an editor know of their area of interest.

Attendance at the weekly meetings is required to continue involvement. If you are unable to attend, send an email to hdr9976@uncw.edu to touch base. Email seahawkeditorinchief@gmail.com for further questions. We hope to see you at our next meeting!

Sincerely,
Helen Rogalski
Managing Editor
